Microsoft itself ever hinder the server and data center users to use Linux. Microsoft threatened to sue users who use Linux as a server operating system is open-source violates 235 patents around.

However, these efforts seem to fail as Linux continues to evolve into one of the largest enterprise operating system. This happens with the help of IBM. Currently, Linux has become the choice of server operating system around the world. He is also known to be applied in devices that belong to Google and Facebook.

Even so, the market share of Linux is still far less than Microsoft. In its latest quarterly report, IDC said Linux is only used by 23 percent of the server. Meanwhile, Windows leads with 49 percent.
