Motorola officially unveils Android smartphone Moto X on Thursday (01/08/2013). Through this phone, Google and Motorola do not want to follow the trend of competition specification components, they are trying a new strategy in selling mobile phones.
Moto X be a mainstay of the first Motorola Android phone since it was acquired by Google in 2012. This phone has been exposed to a lot of Google's intervention, in which the physical form is much different from previous series Motorola phones.
Companies do not want to follow the trend of competition specification components or high-resolution screen. Google and Motorola to prioritize the design that can be personalized, to give freedom to the consumers to change the material and color of the phone Moto X.
This is a new strategy and approach undertaken to raise the popularity of Google's Motorola amid tighter competition, and is now dominated by Samsung and Apple.
Vice President of Product Management Motorola Motorola, Rick Osterloh, said consumers waiting for this phone that is able to represent the product personality. This is evident from the consumer step in decorating accessory or wear on the outside of the phone.
Market analyst Avi Greengart of Current Analysis research institute, argues, this kind of approach is attractive to consumers and can be a pioneer design that can be personalized. However, he questioned how many consumers really need.
"I have no doubt there are people who want to personalize their phones. But the question now is, how many of those who need it," said Greengart as quoted by Reuters.
In the United States, Moto X went on sale in late August or early September at a price of 200 U.S. dollars. However, this is a two-year contract price by five mobile operators in the U.S., namely AT & T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular.
The operator of these five, only AT & T is the exclusive right given by Google to let consumers change the color of the back of the Moto X in 18 color options, as well as the front of the phone.
While the other four mobile operators, can only offer Moto X in a choice of black or white. However, it is possible accessory companies interested in making casing Moto X.
Google claimed not to determine the retail price that consumers in other countries do not want a contract with mobile operator. Motorola has not revealed about the policies Moto X color choice availability in other countries.
Mobile Moto X assembled by the manufacturer Flextronics International is building a plant in Texas, USA.
Announcements thanks to Moto X, Google's stock on Thursday (08/01/2013) rose 1.9 percent to 904.22 dollars or about Rp 9.3 million per share.
