Tech N9ne Talks Visiting Lil Wayne In Jail, Losing A Jay Z Feature, & Devil Worship

Posted by Unknown Senin, 29 Juli 2013 0 komentar

Tech N9ne Speaks on visiting Lil Wayne, nearly getting a Jay Z feature, and the assumption that he worships the devil.
Tech N9ne is getting ready to drop his new album Something Else, tomorrow, so the eccentric rapper stopped by Power 105's The Breakfast Club to talk about the project as well as working with Lil Wayne, almost getting a Jay Z feature, and the rumor that he is a devil worshiper.
Tech spoke on being within the top 3 touring artists at one point in his career. "Yeah it was like Kanye, Jay-Z and me," he said, detailing his touring hustle. "It's been under the radar for a long time. What a lot of artists don't realize is that if you want to be the hip hop president, you gotta get out their and politic. How do we politic through music? We go out and tour."
While the rapper has been known for his status as an independent artist, he explained that he went through a lot of major label drama before choosing to go indie. "My first deal was 1993 with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis," he revealed, "'97 was Quincy Jones, Qwest and Warner, and after that it was Interscope and JCOR."
"After that I went through so much bull with the majors." Tech said of his disappointment with the system. They wanted me to be a drone. They wanted me to do what everyone else is doing. But I was always to the left, I was always strange. There's always been a hint of rock n roll with my hip hop, know what I'm sizzlin?"
N9ne then went on to describe the genesis of Strange Music, his own label. "I met my partner Travis O'Guin like late 99 in Kansas. He said he was a big fan of my music, and he was already a self-made millionaire from a furniture business. So we did a join-venture, and we started Strange Music. I named it Strange Music because I'm a big Doors fan, word to Jim Morrison... it took a lot to do it but we did it. Thank the lord that it worked and it's still working."
On the perception that he is a devil worshiper, the rapper responded, "Everybody thought that. People fear what they don't understand, and what they can't control. If I come out hear and I've got facepaint on, to me-- I look like more like my ancestors than most of these people. If this is a cult I'm leading, the message I'm sharing is love, not hate."
"The imagery is strong." Tech said of the understandable confusion around his persona. "When you look at the new album cover, there's a fiery crown on my head, but it's also a transparent heart with wings. It means evil brain, angel heart."
The Strange Music emcee also let go of some details around his first time meeting Lil Wayne, after Weezy revealed in an interview from Riker's Island that he was looking to work with Tech. "'Did he just say Tech N9ne?' he ain't never met me, I ain't ever met Wayne, but he'd been a fan of me since the Wake Up Show, me doing the anthem."
"I went up to Rikers to say thank you, and we talked for like 3 hours" he revealed, "and that's how I got on Tha Carter IV.
The Something Else rapper shed some light on a failed collaboration with Jay-Z as well, hinting that WTT 2 is already in the works. "I was supposed to send him a beat, because I know his engineer, Mike Dean. They were working on Watch The Throne 2 in Africa or something. So I emailed Mike Dean, like 'I've got this song called “That's My Kid” with Big K.R.I.T. And Cee-Lo' and I know he just had Blu. But I ran out of time, I had to put my album together, so I didn't get to send it to him."

Jay Z Talks Blue Ivy's Influence On His Music & Kanye West

Posted by Unknown Jumat, 19 Juli 2013 0 komentar

Jay Z talks about his family life and its influence on his music, as well as his relationship with Kanye West.
Jay Z's interview with BBC1 Radio's Zane Lowe was released in its final part yesterday, where Hov discussed fatherhood, his future, his wifey Beyonce, and his relationship with Kanye West.
Hov expanded the content of his music in Magna Carta Holy Grail, with the birth of Blue Ivy, we see Jay find a focus on fatherhood and his desire to be a good parent. As a writer, Jay explains in the interview how having a child gave him that new-found energy and focus.
"I'm a writer," Jay Z said. "So, literally, I'm saying, 'the birth of my child gave me this new energy and focus' so 'Blue told me to remind you' but just the energy and focus. She obviously can't say, 'Fuck the shit y'all talkin' 'bout. My dad's the one.' She's 17 months. I mean, [laughing], she's amazing but come on. So, I'm using a metaphor to say that her energy and presence gave me the focus again to remind you exactly who I am.'"
Jay Z went on to discuss how he has to learn to balance his work schedule and family life, which is an added complication."I'm tryna put up a tour and I'm tryna align the schedules now. I woulda just done the tour, I woulda just announced it today on the show, but I have to make sure my schedule can align properly and it's work, it's not this care-free we gunna put up 100-and-whatever shows and be gone for four years, it has to be carefully mapped. There's two entertainers in the house so that has to also be considered," Hov explained.
After discussing his relationship with Beyonce and the possibility of the power couple doing a joint tour (it's out there, but can't be "gimmicky" Jay says), Hov discussed his relationship with Kanye and the Watch The Throne tour.
"It actually was really easy because of the relationship," Jay said of being on tour with 'Ye. "It's always been a big brother thing and a respect thing. It's always a good experience but he's gonna challenge everything because he's really trying to test it and poke holes to make sure that it stands up to the test, which is good. I admire that. It kind of works for me."

Jay Z Officially Drops Hyphen From Name

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 18 Juli 2013 0 komentar

It's officially Jay Z.
Jay Z keeps the #NewRules coming, with the latest involving the spelling of his name. Hov is reportedly 'officially' no longer using a hyphen in his name, thus going from Jay-Z to Jay Z.
Word comes from Billboard's editor, Joe Levy, who says this news come from the label. However, Hov may have been attempting to drop the hyphen from his name for awhile now, because as people have pointed out, since the Watch The Throne days there has been a lack of a hyphen in Jay's printed name. His Facebook page has been spelled without a hyphen as well. Although it seems like the no-hyphen spelling never took in the past, maybe it will this time. What do you think?

Jay-Z Remembers Arguing With Kanye West Over "Holy Grail" & "Oceans" While Recording "WTT" #CRACK360

Jay-Z and Kanye West argued over who would get "Holy Grail" and "Oceans" during their "Watch The Throne" stage.
We learned through Jay-Z's Twitter spree that the Frank Ocean-featured "Oceans" song was actually two years old. Now, in an upcoming interview from Hov and BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, we learn that "Holy Grail" is also an older track, and that Jay-Z and Kanye West argued over the two tracks, as to whose album they should live on.
While the two rappers were recording their joint album, Watch The Throne, in August of 2011, they decided that following the collaborative effort, they'd each work on their respective solo projects. So, with the album wrapping up, Hov recorded his intro track, "Holy Grail," and "Oceans."
"We had this whole plan when me and Kanye did [the] Watch The Throne album that we would go right into our solos after that," Jay-Z recalled during the interview. "Soon as I thought we had wrapped up 'Watch The Throne', I made two records - I had 'Holy Grail' and 'Oceans'."
Hov continued, "[There were] no lyrics on 'Holy Grail' and I recorded 'Oceans' and I played those records for Kanye. And he was like, 'No those have to go on Watch The Throne, so we spent four days arguing about those records and I was explaining to him why it wasn't right for this project and I had a whole idea for making this album called 'Magna Carta'... 'Holy Grail' [part of] the name came after."
The argument went on for four days, however, it didn't turn nasty. As Jay described it, "four days, four days literally arguing... not like fighting. Well, there was some pushing at one point but not between us, just everyone else got a little excited."
Obviously Hov won the argument and the songs for himself, as both appear on his platinum-selling new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail.
