Jay-Z's 'Magna Carta Holy Grail' Free Download Figures Not Eligible For Official UK Chart

The pressure is mounting for Jay-Z after it has emerged that free downloads of his upcoming album 'Magna Carta Holy Grail' will not be eligible towards the overall sales of the record in the UK upon its release in July.
The 43-year-old hip-hop mogul announced on Sunday that he will be releasing his 12th studio album on July 4 through a deal with Samsung, which will allow one million fans to download the album for free before it goes on general sale three days later.
While Jay-Z may have given himself a pat on the back for the smart move, it turns out it isn't so smart after all as it has been confirmed that the download figures will not count towards the overall sales of the album on the UK charts.
The Official Charts Company told NME: “Music which consumers receive free of charge, either as physical releases or downloads, have never counted towards the Official Charts and this release will be no different.
“Legitimate purchases of Jay-Z's album will count, however, as usual.”
The 'N****s In Paris' star looks set to take the summer by storm with the highly-anticipated album which has been worked on by members of hip-hop's elite including Pharrell Williams, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz.
Fans can grab the album on general release from July 7
